The winner of the 20 Grand Slam titles, Roger Federer, commented in a wonderful mood about Roland Garros` first win since 2015, eliminating Lorenzo Sonego with 6:2, 6:4, 6:4.
'The feeling is very good, the game itself has developed perfectly and I think I played quite well. I led with two punches in the first two sets, which is great, really. This gives me a positive tone for the fight and at the same time takes away the opponent`s confidence. I didn`t feel like hitting the ball earlier than my previous involvement here because I don`t remember much of my last involvement except that I lost to Stan Vavrinka.'
'I feel very good physically and now I know that it was the right decision to quit the fight with Tsicipas in Rome. Then I had a lot of pain in my back and legs and if I had played a long fight I might have to recover in weeks. As you get older, the pain is more slowly overcome and that is why I need to be more disciplined and make such decisions. I don`t want to give up games according buy sport predictions at all, especially in Rome, but now was the right decision.'
'I asked myself to play on Sunday because I get more adaptation time and therefore more rest time if I lose (laughs). In years past, I was against playing on Sunday, because then it was not normal to start a tournament on the weekend, not on a Monday. I know now that it makes sense because on Monday, all people are at work!', Federer summarized.
