Soccer tip Zoff: 'I`m sorry mostly about Paul Gascoigne!'

The former Italian footballer and coach Dino Zoff said he regretted the most over the career of Englishman Paul Gascoigne. 77-year-old Jeff was a mentor to Gascoigne in Lazio in the early 1990s, when the talented playmaker`s career began to decline.

'I was desperate because he was like a great artist who forgot how to draw.', Zoff told Radio 2 Paradise.

'I`ve always liked artists, people with ideas. For example, goalkeepers like me do nothing. He made me mad, and I felt sorry for him because he was wasting his art indiscriminately. I was sick of watching him, but when he came to Lazio it was clear that Gaza would have a lot of problems when he stopped playing. It was a logical consequence. To stop at that moment would be the worst for him, because then it was the peak of his career.', Jeff added.

Gascoigne became a star in England with the teams of Tottenham and Newcastle, and then arrived in Rome, where he spent three seasons.
'I remember one time he arrived at our training camp uploading 12 kilos. With shallow and 12 extra pounds. I couldn`t recognize him. I was really desperate to see him. I had to ask others if it really was Gascoigne. He was. I regret nothing in my entire career.', the former Italian national finished.
